When summer moves into fall, passers-by will see an increased level of construction activity at Drexel Town Square, according to Jerry Franke, president – WISPARK LLC.
Barrett Lo Visionary is beginning construction of 147 luxury apartments on the west side of the development. WiRED Properties, developer of 64 luxury apartments along Main Street, will announce over the next 60 days several new retail tenants for the ground floor of these buildings, Franke said.
Blair Williams, president of WiRED Properties explained the mixed-use concept planned for Main Street. “We started with the notion we are creating a sort of downtown environment. One of the things that makes a neighborhood walkable is you have multiple destinations available to you by foot, so you can park once.
“We believe these apartments will be unique in Oak Creek – bringing beautiful urban apartments that not only boast impressive features and finishes, but also have incredible retailers and urban amenities right downstairs,” Williams said.
The City of Oak Creek will move into the new City Hall and Public Library in October. This municipal complex is located on the south side of the two-plus acre town square which will be completed by fall. It will feature an amphitheater, splash pond, and areas for farmers markets, arts and crafts fairs, etc.
The Four Points Sheraton Hotel, which will be located immediately west of the town square, will begin construction in fall. The hotel has been delayed to allow completion of the infrastructure work.
Additionally, the 20-acre wetlands area is nearing completion. It will allow residents to view the intricacies of the best practices for storm water management and will serve as a passive recreation area featuring hiking trails and boardwalks.
Along the perimeter of the 85-acre site, construction will begin in September on the previously announced Chick-Fil-A restaurant and PetSmart.
Construction on the Froedtert Health primary and specialty care health center, which is currently proceeding through a complex design process, is slated to start before year end.
WISPARK LLC, the real estate development subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is the master developer for this site. The property is owned by One West Drexel LLC, which is a public/private partnership of the City and the developer designed to oversee the development of the property. Other entities that are part of the development team include Zilber Property Group, ENVIRON Consulting, GRAEF Engineering, Rinka Chung Architects, KM Construction Management and MidAmerica Real Estate Group.
